ERTA Membership Requirements
Membership in ERTA is open to any teacher in the Edmonton area who has contributed to the Alberta Teacher's Retirement Fund. Special consideration is extended to retirees who do not precisely fit the above requirement. The annual membership fee is $15.00. Membership entitles retirees to receive the ERTA newsletter published in September, November, March and June. The newsletter provides up-to-date information regarding:
- ERTA social activities
- ARTA's group benefits programs
- volunteer opportunities
- work opportunities
- news about other seniors' programs
- information about activities taking place in the Edmonton area.
The newsletter is mailed just prior to each of the four luncheon meetings held in September, December, March and June of each year. The luncheons are a great opportunity for retirees to meet with friends and former colleagues. A guest speaker or some form of entertainment is arranged for each luncheon.

The Purpose of the Retired Teacher's Association
The Edmonton Retired Teacher's Association (ERTA):
- provides opportunities for retired teachers to renew and maintain association with friends and colleagues.
- promotes communication among its members through quarterly newsletters
- provides telephone reminders of events
- supports several scholarship and endowment programs which provide financial assistance to university students working toward a Degree in Education.
Retired teachers are impacted by changing Federal and Provincial Government policies. Fiscal policy can positively or negatively affect the financial, health and social benefits enjoyed by retired teachers. ERTA, with its Provincial counterpart, the Alberta Retired Teachers' Association (ATRA), closely monitor policy changes and provides a means for retirees to voice their concerns on matters which effect their welfare. ERTA works in close association with ARTA to affect positive changes for retired teachers to:
- pensions,
- income taxes,
- property taxes
- benefits programs which provides extended health care, dental care, and long term care.
- In addition, ERTA has negotiated group plans for:
- emergency medical coverage when traveling out-of-province
- home insurance
- automobile insurance
- life insurance
